1 Year of Basementpeople.com

The Two Door Cinema Club Fan Site

1 Year of Basementpeople.com
1 Year of Basementpeople.com avatar

Little did Two Door Cinema Club know, when they wrote this lyric over three years ago, that it would inspire the name for the loyal and dedicated fan base they have brought together. Today we celebrate one year since basementpeople.com opened it’s doors to Two Door Cinema Club fans across the world.

To celebrate this milestone, we (Saoirse and Joe – the admins of basementpeople.com) offer you our reflections on the first year of the site. We also have a fantastic new competition for you with some pretty cool prizes kindly offered to us by the bands management! Details can be found below.

Also, we remind you that this week’s NME (released today) is the Two Door Cinema Club cover issue; make sure you get yours as it features news on their new album Beacon and answers to some of YOUR questions. Unfortunately, the wonderful piece that Joe has written doesn’t seem to be in it.

We’re also really excited about Beacon, so we’re all counting down to September with great anticipation. Be sure to check yesterday’s post for details of a whirlwind tour that the band have announced.

Our Reflections

Saoirse’s Reflections:

“Co-running basementpeople.com has been nothing but fun. I’d never been a part of a fan community before, and so to actually “create” one and see it become so big in such a short period of time has been amazing. The site has allowed me to bring the whole basement people experience to a whole new level; from meeting new people to building a relationship with the bands management. We have also been contacted by promenant media organisations such as NME and even the BBC.

One of the best things about running the site is still, to this day, being able to give something back to Two Door, even if it’s only a small percentage of what they give to us. After all, that’s why I set up those three facebook pages over two years ago!

However, though the basement people were already a solid fanbase before the creation of the site, I think it has allowed us to do bigger and better things, and get our name out there and become a widely known fanbase, which I think has worked, as we have been approached on various occasions. And so I’d like to thank Joe Blakey for creating and building the site, and obviously for being a great work partner and friend over the last year. I’d also like to thank him for teaching me how to use a website, as I knew nothing at all about that kind of thing this time last year. I could just about use tumblr!

It’s hard to believe it’s been a year already. This leaves me very excited, as I know there will be many more to come. So thank you Joe for everything you’ve done and still do, thank you Alex, Kevin, Sam and Ben for being the wonderful musicians (and people) you are, and thank you basement people for being the best fan community I know!”

Joe’s Reflections:

“Having now built, funded and co-run this site for a year, I feel immensely proud to see what has become of it. I never imagined it being recognised by the band, or the success it has amounted. I feel individually lucky to have now worked with the BBC, NME and having had interviewed Kevin.

Fundamentally everything that this site has achieved is testament to Two Door Cinema Club, they’re the root cause of this. It’s their music that has brought people together, they’re the glue that’s bonds such a cohesive community. I cannot thank them and their management enough for their continued support.

However, there are others who without this site would not be here. At the top of my list will always be Saoirse O’Hanlon Tobin, whom without the site wouldn’t be nearly as regularly updated. Her unequivocal dedication and social media skills are key to the site being so popular, without her having attained such a following on the Facebook fan pages we wouldn’t have had the immediate regular user base that yielded us almost 5,000 views on our very first day, exactly one year ago today. It’s a pleasure co-running the site with her and I consider her a close friend. I also extend my thanks to my friend Pascal, who has hosted the site at very low rates that I can manage on a student budget! Finally, there’s you, the visitors! Thank you for your continued support and readership! May the site and the band prosper for a long time to come!”

Competition

We’ve had a great year working on this site together; being able to do something for a band we love and respect so much is a privilege. Though we are grateful for the support the band and their management has shown over the last year, we feel we owe a lot of this to you guys. Without your overwhelming response to the site, we would never have been able to do the things we’ve done, so thank you all so much for your support and input to BasementPeople.com, we look forward to another year of continued success and growth to even greater heights!

We’ll hear from you pretty soon, as surely a lot of you will be entering the competition!

We welcome comments as always,
With very best wishes,

The proud administrators of BasementPeople.com.
